How Can We Help You?

1) What is counselling?

Counselling is a professional, collaborative process where individuals, couples, or groups work with a trained therapist to explore and address personal concerns, challenges, and goals. It provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space to talk openly about feelings, thoughts, and experiences.

Rather than giving advice, counsellors help clients gain deeper self-awareness, develop problem-solving skills, and make positive changes in their lives. The process is tailored to each individual's needs and may focus on various issues, such as mental health, relationships, stress, trauma, grief, or personal growth.

Counselling is a partnership, and success often depends on a client’s willingness to engage in the process. It can lead to greater clarity, improved emotional well-being, and the tools needed to navigate life’s challenges.

Yes, counselling is confidential. Counsellors adhere to strict professional, legal, and ethical guidelines to ensure that what you share during your sessions is private. This means your information will not be disclosed to anyone without your explicit written consent.

However, there are a few exceptions to confidentiality, where counsellors are legally obligated to share information:

  • If there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.
  • If there is suspected or disclosed abuse involving a child, elder, or vulnerable individual.
  • If required by a court order or legal process.

Your counsellor will explain these limits to confidentiality during your first session and address any questions or concerns you may have. The goal is to create a safe and trusting environment where you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and emotions.

Counselling can be highly beneficial if you're navigating difficult emotions, facing life challenges, or seeking personal growth. It provides a supportive, non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours while working toward solutions that align with your goals.

The duration of counselling varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some people may find resolution in just a few sessions, while others might benefit from longer-term support. During your initial session, your therapist will help you develop a plan tailored to your specific circumstances, which may include short-term or ongoing therapy.

Your progress depends on factors like the complexity of your concerns, your readiness for change, and your active participation in the process. Whether you need support for a specific issue or want to explore deeper personal growth, counselling can help you make meaningful and lasting changes in your life.

Each service is tailored to the unique needs of the client, and all are provided in a confidential, safe, and compassionate environment.

Counselling is a unique experience for each individual, as clients bring their own set of needs, goals, and circumstances. The process begins with an intake session. This is where basic information is gathered to understand your needs and concerns. At the intake session, you’ll be assigned to a therapist who will work with you moving forward.

The first full session with your therapist is an assessment session. During this session, you and your therapist will discuss your concerns in more detail. This allows your therapist to get a clearer understanding of your situation and collaborate with you to create a plan that aligns with your unique goals.

Based on the assessment, you and your therapist will determine how often to meet and whether further services are needed. For example, you may be referred to one of our group programmes or other community resources that could help you achieve your goals.

Throughout the process, you will work together with your therapist to address your concerns, make positive changes, and develop tools for coping and personal growth.

Counselling services at The Counselling Centre are free of charge for residents of the Cayman Islands. There are no financial costs associated with individual, group, family, or couples counselling services provided by us.
